Situated on the Southern Europe, Malta is a small island nation in the Mediterranean Sea, composed of 3 main islands Malta (the largest) Gozo and Comino. Half million people live in this blend of ancient cultures with beautiful beaches and clear blue waters.

The capital Valetta was founded in 1566 by the Knights of St. John after the Great Siege of 1565. Rich with history, with megalithic temples older than the pyramids, is also a popular filming location (Game of Thrones or Gladiator)

Malta’s cuisine is a flavorful blend of the many cultures that have influenced the island over the centuries. Its food is Mediterranean at its core but deeply shaped by Italian (especially Sicilian), British, North African, Arab, and French culinary traditions.

Vallettastay-Lovely House

This time we decided to be in a apartment in the centre of the old town. there are plenty of options of hotels and different accommodations, but being in the middle of the town in an old building felt just right for the occasion

You can ask for prices and hotel recomendations here! we are happy to help.

Here is what we ate in our stay:

Bistro Boca

On the other side of the bay, with views over the old town in Malta and the St Pauls cathedral, lyes this french bistro. With a warm and modern environment , the menu offers daily offers, daily specials and classic french dishes.

we decided to order mussels as a starter with french oysters, and as a mains duck casserole, seabass fish of the day with creamy spinach and pome pure with grated truffle.

all with a chocolate tart and a bottle of white wine.

Total bill 145€ for 2 people.

Sotto Pizzeria

Pinsa Romana

Recomended by locals for its price and flavours, this pizzeria stay close enough to the main central streets, but slighlty secluded to feel you are not in a touristic trap. Ambient is relax, service is friendly and the food is great.

You can also eat a Hawaian pinza if you want, but it has a catch: 100€.

Jeff's Pastizzeria

Just a few meters away from our appartment, this takeaway spot is the perfect place for a light breakfast or for a morning snack. here you would be able to enjoy traditional dishes such as:

  • Timpana Pasta pie wrapped in pastry, showing British pie influence with an Italian core.

  • Pastizzi Flaky pastry filled with ricotta or mushy peas is a popular bite with the locals.

Cash only spot with prices starting as little as 1.80€

La Pira Maltese

We decided to try this spot in the main street, a place recomended on the Micelin guide: https://guide.michelin.com/en/malta-south-eastern-region/valletta/restaurant/la-pira

We were eager to sample some well-prepared local cuisine.

We enjoyed beautifully prepared prawn carpaccio, deep-fried local cheese, and octopus stew .

We appreciated the outdoor dining and the lively atmosphere of the evening, with pleasant temperatures even at night. The service was attentive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy good Maltese cuisine.

One day on the boat

Do you want to enjoy a different day on this Mediterranenan island? We choose to spend a day in a boat. We visited Gozo and Comino islands including a visit to the `Blue Lagoon.

Food was on board with an extensive buffet and snacks, free beer during the whole trip, stopping on many spots to swim. I would definitely recommend this experience to see the extension of the island, having a stress free day at sea, for only 75€ per person.
